Police carried out a speed check on Tuesday morning on the N7 between Marnach and Hosingen, a stretch currently restricted to 70 km/h due to roadworks.
The results show once again that many motorists are taking these speed limits lightly.
In total, 11 drivers exceeded the speed limit by more than 20 km/h, resulting in a €145 fine and two penalty points on their licence. Three other motorists were driving up to 20 km/h over the limit and received a €49 fine.
One case stood out: a driver clocked at 110 km/h in the roadworks zone. A fixed penalty notice was drawn up, indicating that the offence goes beyond a simple fine.
Beyond the figures, the check serves as a reminder of a simple reality: temporary speed limits in roadworks are not merely decorative. They protect the workers, as well as the drivers themselves, on roads that are often narrowed, altered, or made more hazardous by construction work.
Police are stepping up checks on these stretches, where speeding remains a frequent occurrence. Respecting speed limits helps avoid a fine – but above all, helps avoid an accident.
