
The Ministry of Economy issued a statement on Friday confirming record prices for diesel and heating oil in Luxembourg.
Regular 95 and 98 petrol prices are by contrast unaffected by this spike.
From Saturday, a litre of diesel will go up by a whopping 16.5 cents, landing at €2.186.
According to the petrol.lu database, this is the highest ever entry for diesel prices on record. The database goes back to 7 January 2009, when a litre of diesel cost €0.789.
Prior to Saturday, the highest diesel has ever been was on 10 March 2022, shortly after the war broke out in Ukraine, when it cost €2.112 per litre. Now the war in Iran is having a similar effect on prices.
Heating oil will also rise by 17.2 cents from Saturday, costing €1.649 per litre. The previous record was €1.553 on 10 March 2022.
A customer purchasing 1,000 litres of heating oil on Friday will pay €172 less than if they bought it on Saturday.

For petrol, the record levels have not yet been surpassed.
98‑octane currently costs €1.858 per litre. The record stands at €2.270, set on 4 June 2022.
95‑octane is currently priced at €1.758 per litre. Its record, also from 4 June 2022, was €2.017.
