The Ministry of Economy issued a statement on Friday confirming record prices for diesel and heating oil in Luxembourg.

Regular 95 and 98 petrol prices are by contrast unaffected by this spike.

From Saturday, a litre of diesel will go up by a whopping 16.5 cents, landing at €2.186.

According to the petrol.lu database, this is the highest ever entry for diesel prices on record. The database goes back to 7 January 2009, when a litre of diesel cost €0.789.

Prior to Saturday, the highest diesel has ever been was on 10 March 2022, shortly after the war broke out in Ukraine, when it cost €2.112 per litre. Now the war in Iran is having a similar effect on prices.

Heating oil hits new highs

Heating oil will also rise by 17.2 cents from Saturday, costing €1.649 per litre. The previous record was €1.553 on 10 March 2022.

A customer purchasing 1,000 litres of heating oil on Friday will pay €172 less than if they bought it on Saturday.
