The School Fair at Luxexpo The Box brings together schools, training providers, and professionals to help pupils and parents explore educational and career pathways after primary school.

Choosing the right secondary school is a key step for pupils in Luxembourg, and the School Fair at Luxexpo aims to help families navigate that decision.

The School Fair runs until 22 April, with alternating access for the general public and school groups.

Spread across three halls at Luxexpo The Box, the fair offers a wide range of information and activities. For primary school pupils, the “Lycée Village” brings together secondary schools from the country’s four regions in one place.

The first day is open to the general public, allowing parents and children to explore the stands together. According to Claudine Bley from the Lycée des Garçons in Esch, visitors tend to ask general questions, such as the differences between schools, although some already come with more specific queries, particularly those who have attended introductory sessions.

Many pupils from Cycle 4.1 (formerly Year 5) attend with their parents to start considering their transition to secondary education, with some already having a clear idea of their future path.

Alongside the Lycée Village, more than 20 workshops organised by the Department for the Coordination of Educational and Technological Research and Innovation (SCRIPT) invite children to discover different professional fields in a playful way.

The University of Luxembourg is also present, using small experiments to introduce young visitors to science. As Joachim Hansen, associate professor in engineering science, explained, it is important to inspire the next generation of researchers, and children often pass on what they learn about the environment to their parents.

Across the three halls, nine different “training worlds” are presented, ranging from economics, finance, and sales to healthcare and beauty. Visitors can explore well-known professions such as those within the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), as well as more niche careers like make-up artistry.

Make-up artist Luca De Michele highlights how important such events are in showcasing his profession to young people, adding that he wishes he had had the same opportunity as a student.

The fair also hosts finals of competitions such as the Luxembourg LEGO League and LuxSkills.

The School Fair runs until 22 April, with access alternating between the public and school groups:

  • Sunday 19 April (11am–6pm): General public
  • Monday 20 April (8.30am–3pm): Reserved for school classes
  • Tuesday 21 April (8.30am–5pm):
