Police were called to a field road in Remich at around 4.20am on Sunday morning. A resident had reported that a group of young people were smoking there and that she was worried a fire could break out.
At the scene, officers found the group and conducted checks. Nearby, they also noticed a white van. When the driver spotted the police, he set off immediately. To stop him, officers positioned their patrol car in his way.
That did not deter the fleeing driver. He drove around the left of the police vehicle, creating enough space to slip past.
With their patrol car damaged and little room to manoeuvre, officers were unable to prevent the driver of the van from getting away.
The driver was, however, already known to the officers, who later checked at his home. The van was parked in the back yard, and the vehicle had damage to its front left. The driver in question was booked for rebellion.
