The unions had a first meeting with the minister on Tuesday. They lamented in a press release that this meeting should have taken place earlier. The unions also stressed that special educational needs (SEN) teachers do not share the viewpoint of the minister, who was for instance against smaller class sizes in Luxembourg's competence centres.
The unions also criticised the vague instructions given by the minister. Meisch reportedly told teachers to respect the precautionary measures "to the extent possible." The unions consequently demanded that the minister give a more precise explanation.
There should also be supervisors for pupils with special needs in the school buses heading to the competence centres, the unions said. This has long been the case in regular primary schools. Meisch reportedly explained that this decision lies with the Ministry of Transport and is unlikely due to "substantial costs involved."
