On World Health Day, the World Health Organization is calling on people to stand behind science.

World Health Day is observed annually on 7 April under the auspices of the World Health Organization (WHO). Since 1950, it has been used to raise awareness of major health issues worldwide.

Each year, the day focuses on a different theme, ranging from mental health and climate change to universal health coverage. It forms part of a broader series of global campaigns organised by the World Health Organization.

This year’s theme is: “Together for health. Stand with science.”

Cooperation with science as the key

The WHO aims to highlight the role of science in international cooperation. At a time of increasingly complex health risks, societies are encouraged to rely on facts and evidence-based knowledge.

The organisation works with partners on issues such as vaccination, infectious diseases, nutrition, and mental health. This involves not only research, but also translating findings into practical action and improving access to healthcare services worldwide.

According to the WHO, progress in health can only be achieved through cooperation and trust in science: the key message it seeks to promote on 7 April this year.
