Police was alerted on Monday around 2.20 pm about a woman having been assaulted in broad daylight. The attacker had allegedly pushed the victim to the ground and afflicted serious injuries with a knife.
Pedestrians stayed close by until emergency services arrived. The woman was first brought to a nearby hospital, before subsequently being transported to another hospital in the capital via helicopter.
The attacker had fled the scene on foot, but could quickly be apprehended by the police on Rue Martyrs, thanks to the numerous witnesses at the scene. The perpetrator was the woman's ex-husband.
Police later found the weapon at the man's apartment. He was brought to the prison in Schrassig and will face a judge on Tuesday morning.
