Between 9 and 15 March 2026, the police carried out a large-scale national campaign focusing on seatbelt use and drink driving, with increased checks aimed at raising awareness among motorists about the associated risks.
Over the seven-day campaign, police issued 43 warnings for cases where seatbelts were not worn correctly or where child seats were improperly installed. In addition to seatbelt compliance, driving under the influence of alcohol, particularly during the carnival period, was a key focus of the checks.
During the campaign, a total of 32 drink-driving offences were recorded. In 28 cases, driving licences were confiscated on the spot and fines were issued, while in the remaining four cases, formal reports were drawn up.
In this context, the police once again reminded the public that both failing to wear a seatbelt and driving under the influence of alcohol, even over short distances, pose serious risks.
